Buffalo Memorial Auditorium

  • Contracted to safely demolish the 150,000 square foot, 98 foot high municipal arena.
  • Removed 16,000 seats, and performed the architectural salvage of the north facade, including match marking and crating, as mementos for the City of Buffalo.
  • Utilized asbestos abatement specialists to remove 30,000 square foot of asbestos containing concrete foundation materials, which were uncovered during demolition operations.
  • Utilized specialized demolition equipment, including an 80 foot high reach excavator, to systematically demolish the structure.
  • Special protective measures and demolition techniques were utilized in the safe demolition of this structure due to the close proximity of a main thoroughfare for the City of Buffalo and a rapid transit line.
  • Over 50 controlled engineered, structural pulls were also used to systematically demolish the roof trusses.
  • Additionally, Demolished a 150 foot reinforced concrete stack.
  • Demolition operations produced over 5,500 tons of scrap metal, which was sent out for recycling, along with 1,485 tons of C&D debris.
  • Exported over 2,500 loads of hard fill were exported from the site for recycling and removed over 700 ton of contaminated soil, which was shipped offsite for proper disposal.
  • Installed 625' of new 48" water line, including tie ins.
  • Completed project with over 20,000 safe working man hours with zero recordable or lost time injuries.
  • DEMCO successfully met the project minority utilization rate of 30% and achieved a 95% recycle rate of waste from the entire project.
  • Graded site was left in a condition to facilitate new construction.
